Activities on site!

As well as the museum's special events there are also loads of activities happening on site daily.  Below is a rough guide to upcoming displays and activities.  Don't forget the new Andy Black Exhibition in the Gallery too!

Wed 18th – Spinning in the Manor House, Cooking in White Cottage, Bug Making in the Study centre
Thurs 19th – Weaving in the Manor House, Bug Making in Study Centre, Ros Mckenzie book signing in Fat Bettys
Fri 20th – Yorkshire Daisies in WW2 Hut, Local Myths and Legends in the Roundhouse (10.30-12.30 & 1.30-3.30)
Sat 21st – Local Myths and Legends in the Roundhouse (10.30-12.30 & 1.30-3.30), Cooking in White Cottage
Sun 22nd – Weaving in Crofters Cottage, Cooking on site.

Mon 23rd – Rope Making, Medieval Cooking in Stang End, Local Myths and Legends in the Roundhouse (1.30-3.30)
Tues 24th – Spinning in the Manor House, Local Myths and Legends in the Roundhouse (1.30-3.30)
Weds 25th – Local Myths and Legends in the Roundhouse (10.30-12.30 & 1.30-3.30), Drop Scone making in White Cottage, Spinning in the Manor House
Thurs 26th – Cooking in Gypsy Caravan, White Cottage and Crofters Cottage, Bug Making in Study Centre
Fri 27th – Cooking on site, Crazy Patchwork in WW2 Hut

On the 18th July thousands of steel workers on Teesside marched, with banners and a brass band, to try to save their last blast furnace from closing. For over a hundred years much of the ironstone that went into the furnaces came from the Cleveland ironstone mines, including Rosedale. On the 24th July, 40 young people from North Ormesby, near Middlesbrough, came to the museum and using banners and brass band instruments, recreated the Cleveland ironstone miners first ever Demonstration day. The original gala, held in 1872 in Skelton, included men from the Rosedale mines.

Cornfield  Flowers Project Cornfield Flowers Project at Ryedale Folk Museum - saving rare arable flowers from extinction in North-east Yorkshire As spring takes hold and the natural world awakes from its winter slumber, the first signs of some of the UK’s rarest wildflowers are eagerly awaited in a corner of the Ryedale Folk Museum. In front of the roundhouse is the Cornfield Flowers Project demonstration field.  For much of the year, this is bare earth with little to hint at the value of the seeds that lie beneath.  By summer time though, this field will be a blast of colourful plants growing amongst a cereal crop, and provides an accessible display of some of the most endangered arable wildflowers in North Yorkshire and the UK. Apprentice 2, II

Sorry folks for not writing in a long time but I have been busy!! Recently I have been to the Bradford college and, got to know the surroundings around me. Over the past few weeks I have opened up the museum, got to know the different sets of keys and what they are used for, i have also learnt recently, how to open up the actual site with the Master set of keys. When I am at work I have been doing lots of different jobs such as; Front of House (on my own), as well as doing a bit of my own work with college. David has been helping me get up to the same stage as him, so we can help each other and discuss our different opinions. I have been on a 'Customer Care course' and have found it useful and have taken many notes for college. This will be useful for Evidence. - I have also already done a Customer Care course and I achieved the highest standard in my class. David and I cleaned out the office, and you would have to have a strong gut to do it, as it was a hard job. We both felt ...
