Ryedale Folk Museum

We have had two new arrivals this week in the form of two 6 week old Kunekune piglets. Named Maud and Ethel by the  staff the pigs have already settled into their new home, being very chatty with the visitors and are becoming quite the attraction. The Kunekune pig, originally kept by Maoris in New Zealand, are friendly hairy pigs, these two being tri-colour, black, white and a spot of ginger! They are the smallest domesticated breed of pig in the world, and a firm favourite among pet pig owners, due to their placid friendly nature and love of human company.  We have had many different breeds over the years but the Kunekune pigs, have more character and intelligence than any of them!

Spring has sprung at the museum. Below are some pics of the site this April - Our new pigs and very scary scare crow included! Our pigs this year are the rare Berkshire breed. Every year the museum rears rare breed pigs, these two new arrivals are a welcome addition. CG.
