We had another successful World War II weekend, with loads of re-enactors and displays onsite. Here are just a few images from the weekend. Our next war re-enactment event is 'Europe at War' on  Saturday the 7th September and Sunday the 8th September.

A Multi Period History

This last weekend we had the 'No Name' re-enactors demonstrating onsite. The group demonstrated different crafts and told stories of how people lived from Iron age up to Medieval times. This included wood turning on a pole lathe, weapon and tool making, story telling, weaving and net making.  We also had re-enactors occupying our Iron Age Roundhouse!   We welcome the group back over August Bank Holiday weekend.

Ryedale Recipes

If you fancy cooking some traditional food after a visit to Ryedale Folk Museum, then the book Ryedale Recipes by Peter Brears is ideal. There was plenty of food around today, Kevin Sims made a ham mushroom and pea pie with jacket spuds in the White Cottage, whilst Peter was busy in Stang End with chicken, bread cheese and vegetables. In the Tudor Crofter's cottage Emma Hirst was cooking small mint pancakes, a joint of bacon and vegetable stew. As yesterday, all was made to a very good standard. Jonathan Severs
